Nurturing Thursday, a day to stop and think about what you’ve been doing to nurture your precious self, or our wondrous planet.
For the longest time, my legs have bothered me, a kind of ongoing draggy discomfort. I’ve often wondered if this is where the remnants of Fibromyalgia settled. I have experienced massage, Reiki, visualization, hot baths with Epsom Salts and probably other things that don’t come to mind right now, and each has helped. Yet the discomfort returns now and then. Recently, the healer I go to, after once again relieving me of all pain, via distance healing, reminded me to care for my feet.
Hmmmm, perhaps the worn out slippers I’ve been wearing around the house are not the best of choices. So, I set out in search of something new, comfortable, and with a wee bit of support for my beleaguered feet. Having worn Dr. Scholl’s clogs way back in the 1970s, I have a fond affinity for their footwear.
Remember these?

I wore them for years and years. Now that I’ve found out they still make them, hmmmmmmmmmmm. But I digress, last Friday, I found a pair, made of leather, in a wide width – both prerequisites – and the price was right.
I’ve been wearing them since and am quite happy with the fit and comfort as well as the knowing that I’m doing something, daily, to nurture my feet. I have been using the box they came in to store some stuff and, a couple of days ago, I burst out laughing when I noticed the label on the side of the box:
Is that priceless or what? I am literally walking in truth! Oh, the Divine has an amazing sense of humour, no?

My mom wore the old wood Dr. Scholls during the 1970s – I remember them well.
I love that you are literally walking in Truth! Talk about manifesting.

Thanks for posting this. I have been looking for a shoe that can help with my knees. I am going to give these a try. It’s wonderful the things we find day to day.
Namaste …

My mom had clogs just like those when I was a kid! Makes sense, I think you’re pretty close to my mom’s age.
Seeing them brings back good memories.
I have to wear good shoes all the time, even around the house, as my feet always hurt too. My favorite “house shoes” are Keen sandals.
I hope they do the trick!
Mar 16, 2013 @ 22:05:41
Yeah they were the rage back in the day! So far, so good with the new ones.

Joss…this is wonderful… walking in truth!… Here I’ve been keeping cards of positive-ness in my pockets (!!) and, instead….I can take a sharpie pen and write on the inside soles/arch of my shoes…”I walk in ____________”…. anything I want! And if it wears off, then I can write it again or write something else! How about that for a good idea?!?!?! ….one idea leads to another!
“Affirming your truth on your soles”….???
Mar 15, 2013 @ 18:49:26
I love that idea Kathy. Next new pair of shoes I buy, I’m going to write “I walk in beauty” on the inside soles and every time I slip into them, I will smile.
Mar 16, 2013 @ 15:04:19
This is a brilliant idea, Pocket!
Mar 15, 2013 @ 16:02:38
Haha, I had the Dr. Scholl’s on a post last month, too. About fashions in the 70s. Then I found out they still make them!
Mar 15, 2013 @ 18:48:03
I think they must have started producing them again in the last ten years or so maybe, because I remember looking for them around 2001 and couldn’t find any at all.
Mar 15, 2013 @ 20:08:21
That makes sense because I was pretty sure they were gone.
Mar 15, 2013 @ 15:16:06
Love the little message from the Universe! Walking on truth, walking in beauty!
Mar 15, 2013 @ 18:50:04
it’s always the little things, the small moments of awareness that delight, isn’t it?
Mar 15, 2013 @ 15:04:20
I stopped going to a church because I didn’t want to suffer with uncomfortable shoes every Sunday. Let’s hear it for the right footwear or having a good “understanding”!
Mar 15, 2013 @ 18:50:56
heh heh. well, I stopped going to church when i realized I was sitting in the pew asking “what the hell am I doing here?”
Mar 15, 2013 @ 14:14:03
I think it would be a great idea to have a ‘be nice to me’ day, and with licence to observe it fully. In fact, seven of them a week would be about right.
Barefoot is best as far as possible, methinks, plus useful calf-stretching exercises propped against a wall.
Mar 15, 2013 @ 18:51:49
this reminded me of the years of going barefoot in the south of France. A little tougher to do when the temperature drops to -20 though.
Mar 15, 2013 @ 13:35:51
Joss it was clear all along that you are walking in truth but having it stamped right there on the side of the box is pretty great!

aw. thank you. It was such a neat little affirmation I thought.
Mar 15, 2013 @ 08:03:49
I had some of those Dr. Scholl’s too. I think they would be a little hard on my persnickety feet these days. Nurture Thursday is a nice and probably well-needed idea. You’re always thinking, Joss.
Mar 15, 2013 @ 18:53:59
yeah, I pretty much live inside myself! What’s that sign “I live in my own little world, but that’s okay, they like me there”. hee hee. I am doubly blessed because they like me out here too.
Mar 15, 2013 @ 05:24:37
I had just got into wearing those types of things when the fibro hit hard and i couldn’t walk in them any more. My goal is to get rid of the stick that i use because my balance isn’t too good but maybe a pair of those to wear around the house might be the answer i have been praying for? Thank you yet again for walking in ‘truth’.
Mar 15, 2013 @ 18:54:52
I really like these Bev, they are comfortable, have some support and I’m noticing my feet and legs, especially, are less achy, much less.

Walking in truth, through truth, with truth … all awesome options … truth from the bottom up!! Glad to know these are comfortable — I have often wondered!!
I use to love Dr. Scholl’s … gave me great calves!!
Appreciate you contributing to Nurturing Thursday! Always time to fill yourself with self-compassion and kindness!
Mar 14, 2013 @ 21:04:58
Always glad to participate. I’m quite happy with my new sandals and the price was right!
Mar 14, 2013 @ 17:09:35

Take Care..

Well, for $25 I figure I did quite well! My feet are thanking me.
Mar 14, 2013 @ 16:23:53
LOL, “walking in Truth” you really have to LOVE that: )
I’ll second the motion for the Birk’s…
I’ve been wearing these things for a (very l o n g time now) and still have the original pair (haven’t got the heart to throw them away; )
Mar 15, 2013 @ 18:55:40
they seem to be the shoe that once you get a pair, you never go back to any other brand.
Mar 14, 2013 @ 15:19:29
I find Birkenstock sandals and shoes much more comfortable than Scholls. I live in them and they’ve sorted out all those aches and pains I used to suffer in my toe-joints and legs. I used to have curled up toes, but two years on, they are straight, with spaces between them, and so much better looking.
Mar 14, 2013 @ 15:35:17
I bought my hubby a pair of those and he loves them. Maybe time to think about a pair for me, eh?
Mar 14, 2013 @ 16:32:55
“Maybe time to think about a pair for me, eh?”
To me, nurturing others is easy, but one’s self, now that’s the hardest thing. (From the sound of it, you have the same trouble as well? (:P

I think this is a chronic issue for women, perhaps. We tend to take care of everyone and everything and forget our own most precious self!
Mar 14, 2013 @ 23:53:51
Sad, but true; in spite of the fact that taking good care of yourself is good for everyone in the long run.
