About eight years ago, I ran across Patricia Lynn Reilly’s poem “Imagine a Woman” and it so resonated with me. At the time, I was exploring what it meant to be a woman and further exploring the whole idea of the Divine Feminine. I encourage you to click on the link and go and read her poem. It is outstanding. To be honest, I am saving my pennies right now till I can afford to become a facilitator as Ms Riley has created a wonderful “industry” around her poem.
As I contemplated her writing, those many years ago, I wrote my own mission for myself, as a woman:
My Life Mission
To be a woman who loves her life and whose happiness and laughter is contagious.
To share the wisdom I have gained on my journey in a meaningful way.
To communicate, through my life and my writing, that you can grow up,
without nurture or love and consciously build a rich and exciting life.
To be a woman who honours her self and the Creator who gave her breath.
To be a woman who values her self, her spirituality and her dreams
as well as her circle of friends, family and allies.
To be a seeker of truth and wisdom and to die with questions still in me.
To be a woman who lives out her life with a mate who rejoices in the amazing woman I am
and who allows me entrance into his heart.
To be a woman who is as fiercely honest as she is loyal and who stands
in her truth with both grace and pride.
To be a woman who loves and is loved because it is in loving and being loved
that we are most fully human and closest to The Divine.
To be a woman The Divine rejoices in.
To be a woman who, at the end of her days, enters into God’s presence to hear the words
“I’m so glad you’re here. Welcome home.”

James Lipton (from “Inside The Actors Studio”) asks a set of standard questions of every celebrity he interviews; and one of the last questions is, “If God exists, what would you like to hear him say as you arrive at the pearly gates?” And the answer I always give is, “Welcome home.”

Joss – this is an absolutely beautiful life mission! And what a great idea. I think I will write one for myself. My favorite parts…
To be a woman who loves her life and whose happiness and laughter is contagious.
To be a woman who honours her self and the Creator who gave her breath.
To be a woman The Divine rejoices in.
To be a woman who, at the end of her days, enters into God’s presence to hear the words
“I’m so glad you’re here. Welcome home.”
Okay, so that is most of it! But those are the things that really jumped out at me! You have such a beautiful spirit and it shows in this mission.
I also loved the Imagine A Woman poem.

I continue to be amazed by your thoughtful words, Joss. Thank you.

thank *you* for your lovely presence here.

I think your mission is laudable and superb and encouraging. I particularly enjoyed the line “and to die with questions still in me.” if we stop asking questions we stop thinking and living don’t we?
Mar 10, 2013 @ 10:57:18
absolutely. I don’t ever want to think or feel that I have all the answers. that would just make the journey so boring, really.

Such inspiring food for thought is your beautiful & heartfelt poem..

Beautiful! Food for thought for us all. If we can’t appreciate our selves we can not expect others too. Bridget x

Ah, as my 50th birthday looms later this year, I read this poem and soak it in. I wanted to share it with you, as well.

Joss, what an inspiration your poem is and you are…

It is a long road we travel – some longer than most – and you have come so far out of the depths Joss and help so many daily; but, I have heard it said that, there can never be complete healing, without forgiveness first…
Just as a sliver will fester until we excise it from our flesh…
(Lord knows it’s not easy, and indeed, don’t we fight with it every day?) but Alexander Pope said it best…
“To err is human, to forgive divine”

Namaste Joss and pax vobiscum.

Forgiveness of others, forgiveness of self, are an intricate step in the healing dance, for sure.

I have been sat here for several minutes reading and re-reading what you have written and trying to think of something to add, but i don’t there is anything to add. It’s very beautiful and honest, filled with a sense of purpose and being.

Thank you, my friend, thank you.

That mission can transplant seamlessly to a man. A couple who both adopt and live it together – wow!

It was written at an intensely introspective, healing time of my life.
