In the midst of the storm
I looked up and there you were.
Huddled in the corner, I was
cowering with my hands over my head.
Gently you sat beside me
and wrapped your arms around
my trembling body.
The storm beat
down with winds that
shook the foundation of my life.
Lighting flashed and
thunder cracked like
a crazed whip on a rodeo stage.
Still you sat beside me.
Rain poured down and
dripped through the cracks
in my soul and it was
oh so cold.
Still you sat beside me.
As the tears poured
down my face, trickling
faster and faster down my
chest and making a puddle
on the floor
you sat beside me.
The storm abated,
the tears slowed,
the beat of my heart
could be heard in the silence.
and still you sat beside me.
My head on your shoulder,
your arms around me,
you spoke not a word
till finally, gathering my strength
I smiled and said
I think it’s safe
for me to get up now
and carry on.
