My contribution to Nurturing Thursday today.
There is a lot swirling around my life these days so do bear with me as I know I’ve not been very faithful visiting everyone. At times like this, the little moments of self care make a big difference. A favourite cup
I’ve had this cup for probably thirty years! I’m sure I had a dress just like this one, back when girls wore mostly dresses and I do remember playing marbles, in France, as a child. It was a lot of fun and my memory tells me I was pretty good at it.
Tonight, I poured some chamomile/mint tea into this lovely cup and added a little something extra, just because:
A nurturing moment, wouldn’t you agree?
Nurturing Thursday is the idea of Becca Givens, author of ‘On Dragonfly Wings with Buttercup Tea’

I’m sorry to hear you are in the midst of some swirl… I hope all is well?

Things have settled down and are less swirly! Now I just need to get through February and it’s grey cold days.
Feb 01, 2013 @ 12:23:35
Amen to that. I find that a blue light and hot tea work well to support me in this grey cold month.

I think we all deserve those nurturing moments.. A little bit of what we fancy does us good I am told..

A lovely ritual for yourself – to nurture yourself. I’ve added a link of this post to this past Nurturing Thursday.
(BTW: the link takes you have listed above is to the day of Thursday, rather than direct to Nurturing Thursday. If you want the direct link, this is it: http://beccagivens.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/nurturing-thursday-you/)

I remember when I used to wear dresses and think I had a few that looked like the one on the cup. I still enjoy wearing dresses and long skirts.

I love the idea of Nurturing Thursday. Nurturing anything, really!
Jan 18, 2013 @ 22:12:15
as do I. Every so often I meet someone and realize “here is a person who has had very little nurturing in their life”. it shows. We all need that, don’t we?
Jan 18, 2013 @ 10:16:02
Nice.
Jan 18, 2013 @ 09:37:19
I love your addition, and the idea of self-care or self-soothing is very important in the midst of the chaos of life. That is something I try to remember. Thanks for the reminder.
Jan 18, 2013 @ 22:13:06
it really makes a difference when we take even a few moments to just be gentle with our self.
Jan 18, 2013 @ 08:04:18
Those little moments are essential!

Oh geez, has it been that long? My grandma gave us (my brother and I) cups like this one year filled with Easter goodies (playing alleys[allies?] rocks; ) and I still have mine too. Cool!!:D
Jan 18, 2013 @ 06:41:15
Oops! Should’ve said “my brother and me”, not I… “It still has to make sense when it stands alone.” Grade 5 phonics, Rule #?? LOL, that little tidbit’s even older than our cups!!!
Jan 18, 2013 @ 11:26:23
it is indeed older than our cups. Nice to know we share cups though!
Jan 18, 2013 @ 06:18:34
What a lovely cup! Don’t you get a bit paranoid about it having an accident? After all this time that would be shattering in more ways than one.
Jan 18, 2013 @ 22:13:57
no, not really. I just accept it as part of my life. I don’t use it all that often though, for that reason.

I love your expression ‘a lot swirling around in your life’, Joss, it describes my world so well right now! So much is going on and like Rebekah, most of it is not directly my concern but it still affects me. I am consciously taking care of myself while trusting that the confusion will settle in it’s own time. You have taken good care of your precious mug and it returns the favour!
Jan 18, 2013 @ 22:14:49
it does, doesn’t it? We need those little things, those little times, that allow us to step away from the swirl and just be and breathe.
Jan 18, 2013 @ 01:06:40
What a pretty and unusual cup, and it’s amazing that you still have it after thirty years! It’s a part of you, and a nice, relaxing way to enjoy a special drink at the end of the day. Spoil yourself – you’re worth it!
Jan 18, 2013 @ 22:15:20
aw, thanks Barb. We all need those special little things around us, eh?
Jan 18, 2013 @ 00:01:18
I use the exact style tea mug for my special sips, too, Joss. However, instead of Rockwell paintings, I have Ted Harrison’s from the Yukon and Arctic. I especially like drinking my hot lemonade with Cdn. honey and ginger.
Jan 18, 2013 @ 22:16:15
Your mug sounds lovely too. it’s interesting the little things we cherish and that bring us comfort.
Jan 17, 2013 @ 23:08:18
How wonderful that you’ve managed to keep this mug for such a long time! It sounds really good with that tea, even though I have yet to acquire the taste for maple syrup.
I’ve felt a little sad lately, because of something going on here in SJ. I have aboslutely nothing to do with it, but it saddens me to no end. It’s easy to lose hope in humanity at times..

Nature is such a sweet provider: )
Know that we are all there with you: you and Joss and Lynda and… Hugs, D.
Jan 18, 2013 @ 22:16:54
oh maple syrup is good on all kinds of things – salmon, root vegetables…and in tea, of course, especially herbal teas.
Jan 17, 2013 @ 22:23:23
I am feeling under the weather, unusual for me, and tea and honey have been comforting and really do make me feel better. However, I have not tried maple syrup in it before and will do that now, too. Maple syrup, the elixir of Canada and the Northeast, has been a non-compromise for me all my life.
Jan 18, 2013 @ 22:17:39
I remember telling a woman in Atlanta, many, many years ago “we grow maple syrup where I come from”. heh heh.
Jan 19, 2013 @ 00:32:24
And moraines.
Jan 17, 2013 @ 21:47:51
Yes, I agree!
